Just Say Yes: How a Candy Cane and a Simple “Yes” Changed Everything
It all started over 20 years ago with a children’s book and a little red bag.
I was reading The Legend of the Candy Cane to my kids—a heartwarming story about a
stranger who opens a candy shop and quietly spreads the love of Jesus through a simple piece of candy. Something about that story stirred me. I didn’t know it then, but God was planting seeds in my heart.
Soon after, my family and I began handing out little red bags—each one filled with candy, a
candy cane, and a Bible tract explaining the legend. We gave them out everywhere we went.
What started as a small act of faith became a family tradition, one bag at a time, year after
year—for two decades and counting.
But God wasn’t done with that candy cane.
Years later, I found myself saying “yes” to Jesus again—this time in a much bigger way. I left my
job, stepped away from stability, had no spouse, no financial safety net, and certainly no
business degree. Just a heart willing to follow God, and a verse I held onto with everything I
had:
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord.
In 2023, I opened the doors of a candy store in a tiny town 45 minutes from home. It didn’t make any logical business sense—but it made God-sense. From day one, that little store became a mission field. A place where people came not just for sweets, but for encouragement, prayer, and unexpected hope.
Then, God moved me again—to Princeton. Not my plan, but His. And wouldn’t you know it?
Another mission field.
If you take away anything from my story, let it be this: Just say yes to Jesus.
His plans are always better. His timing is perfect. His provision never runs dry. The ride is far more exciting, more peaceful, and more fulfilling than anything you could plan yourself.
That first candy cane 20 years ago? It was never just about candy. It was about calling.
And all I had to do was say yes
